How to really disable Java Update check when there is NO "Update" tab in Control Panel?

Occasionally there is a popup from Java icon in Systray of Win7 informing me that a new Java Update is available.

How can I really disable it?

I often read about the recommendation that users should go to Control Panel--->Java--->Update tab
and uncheck automatic update check.

BUT: I have no such "Update" tab in Java Control Panel.

Java 7 is working anyway.

So is there another way to disable this update check?

I don't see it in the Java Control Panel applet either.

There is a Sun Java Update Scheduler jusched.exe that runs when Windows
starts. Disable it, and you're good to go.

Unfortunately I can't remember whether it's in one of the Startup
folders or in the Registry, because I got rid of it long ago.

You can use a startup manager like CodeStuff Starter to disable it.

I find out about new versions with Vercheck. see
http://mindprod.com/applet/vercheck.html
which notifies me considerably before Jusched.exe.

There are four possible ways to poke a card into a slot.
Nearly always, only one way works. To me that betrays a
Fascist mentality, demanding customers conform to some
arbitrary rule, and hassling them to discover the magic
orientation. The polite way to do it is to design the reader
slot so that all four ways work, or so that all the customer
has to do is put the card in the vicinity of the reader.

This was the top result when searching why there is no update tab in the control panel so I thought I would supply an answer... Java isn't so smart at knowing when both 64bit and 32bit are installed and I found I often need to check BOTH control panels.

Control Panel\Java -> no update tab
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe -> no update tab
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe -> finally an update tab!
